Windows Mapping Conventions / Windows system shortcuts / Windows Environment Variables / Windows System Folder Shortcuts

hi, Here are the conventions that are used by the Windows operating system. you can either use these conventions to get into the target folder by typin them in the Run dialog box, or in the command prompt or on the adress bar of the Windows Internet explorer or on the address bar of the Windows explorer..




For newbies, you can use these conventions along with the specified target folder.
for instacee here i presume that you have installed the Windows operating system on the local disk C. now to go this particular folder

C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime\09\01\Intel32,

you can just replace the first three elements of the path by this.

%CommomProgramfiles%\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime\09\01\Intel32

Similarly to work with the iTunes folder located in my music i.e.,to access C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\My Music\iTunes, you can simply use

%mymusic%\iTunes ..


You can call these shortcuts or whatever, but they are called Windows mappin conventions or Windows Environment Variables to be more precise.

Mapping are displayed with the following assumptions:

Operating system: Windows Xp English
Profile Name: UserName
Windows directory: C:\WINDOWS
